The Hong Kong Film Awards, the world-renowned Chinese-language film industry event founded and held its debut presentation ceremony in 1982, has been established for forty years in Hong Kong. A special commemorative booklet will be released tomorrow (30 June) to celebrate its 40th anniversary.

The double-cover design of “The 40th Hong Kong Film Awards Special” booklet is dominated by white, black and golden hues, with a collage of the portraits of this year’s “Best Actor” and “Best Actress” nominees presented in a simple but grand design style. The booklet is information-rich. It covers not only a full list of all nominees for each award category, but also the Chairman’s Message by Derek YEE Tung Sing (爾冬陞), Chairman of Hong Kong Film Awards Association; a detailed coverage of the “Lifetime Achievement Award” recipient Michael HUI (許冠文) and the “Professional Achievement Award” recipient Tony CHOW (周國忠) on their glorious cinematic careers for more than half a century; as well as contributed articles by veteran cultural workers and film critics Kanasawa (金澤), Cecilia WONG Lai Ming (卓男), TSANG Kam Shing (金成), Fatmoonba (月巴氏), PO Fung (蒲鋒) and BUT Chi Wing (畢志榮) to review the development of Hong Kong Film Awards in the past four decades and how local filmmakers inherited past traditions, strived for excellence and set many precedents for Hong Kong films. The final five nominees for “Best New Director” CHIU Sin Hang (趙善恆) , Kin Long CHAN (陳健朗), MAN Lim Chung (文念中), LAU Ho Leung (劉浩良) and Jun LI (李駿碩) also play their part in the “Notes of New Directors’” section, sharing their experiences as a new film director, their feelings of being nominated and their personal work notes. Moreover, some in-memoriam pages are dedicated to pay tribute to the late filmmakers, talents and workers of film industry who passed away in the past two years.

The commemorative booklet will be officially launched on 30 June and will be available for sale in designated Circle-K convenience stores and bookstores, as well as all newspaper stands across Hong Kong, at a set price of HKD100.
