The 44th Hong Kong Film Awards(HKFA) will be held on 19 April 2026 (Sunday) at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Following the earlier release of portrait photos for the ‘Best Actor’ and ‘Best Actress’ nominees, the Hong Kong Film Awards Association today (30 March) has unveiled the portrait photos for the ‘Best Supporting Actor’ nominees (according to the nomination list order) CHAN Charm Man Peter, Ben YUEN, WONG You Nam, Locker LAM and Alex TO, as well as the ‘Best Supporting Actress’ nominees Elizabeth TANG, Kara WAI, Michelle WAI, Nina PAW and Joyce TANG, offering the public a taste of the charisma that defines this year's supporting stars.

Having previously won ‘Best Supporting Actor’ at both the Golden Horse Awards and the 38th HKFA for “Tracy”, and then claimed the Golden Rooster Awards for “The Dumpling Queen" to become the first actor to win all three major Chineselanguage film awards in the supporting category, Ben YUEN returns to the HKFA ‘Best Supporting Actor’ race this year with his role as “dessert soup uncle” in “The Dumpling Queen”. His grounded, naturalistic performance brings warmth and resilience to an ordinary working-class character, conveying the trust, friction and camaraderie between companions with genuine emotion.

As a seasoned performer of over 40 years, Alex TO had already taken home ‘Best Supporting Actor’ at the Hong Kong Film Directors' Guild Awards for “Sons of the Neon Night” before earning his first-ever HKFA nomination in the same role. His assured, commanding portrayal of the enigmatic "Lee Man Dik" — a character of quiet menace and concealed humanity — proves that a limited screen presence can leave an indelible mark.

WONG You Nam, who earned a double nomination for ‘Best New Performer’ at the 22nd HKFA, returns to the awards stage decades later with his first ‘Best Supporting Actor’ nomination for “Ciao UFO”. His effortless, unaffected performance moves fluidly between comedy and melancholy, bringing to life a character whose carefree facade conceals a deeper sense of regret — lending the film a distinctly bittersweet quality.

Previously nominated for ‘Best New Performer’ for “Three Husbands” and ‘Best Supporting Actor’ for “Table for Six”, CHAN Charm Man Peter is back in the ‘Best Supporting Actor’ race with “Unidentified Murder”. He plays a pivotal figure drawn into a bizarre case — one who must simultaneously confront an "alien conspiracy" and withstand the scepticism of those around him. The performance is rich with inner conflict and restrained intensity.

Emerging talent Locker LAM earns his first Best Supporting Actor nomination this year for “Fight for Tomorrow”, where his character "Stone" embodies the spirit of someone who charges forward at any cost — torn between dreams, duty and selfworth. His explosive physicality paired with nuanced emotional depth makes for a striking, memorable debut in the awards conversation.

Three of this year's ‘Best Supporting Actress’ nominees are former ‘Best Actress’ winners. Kara WAI, a three-time ‘Best Actress’ laureate who has also won ‘Best Supporting Actress’ twice, returns to the category with “The Dumpling Queen”. Her trademark blend of precision and warmth lays bare her character's fierce devotion to family and dignity, delivered with the effortless authority of a seasoned master. Nina PAW, who claimed ‘Best Actress’ at the 28th HKFA and has been a perennial presence in the ‘Best Supporting Actress’ race, brings her iconic edge to “Sons of the Neon Night” as “Foon” — a blunt gun expert who commands every scene she's in despite limited screen time, her presence impossible to ignore.

Last year's ‘Best Actress’ winner for “The Last Dance”, Michelle WAI now contends for ‘Best Supporting Actress’ in “Ciao UFO”, playing a city woman entangled in fantastical events who gradually confronts her own fears and regrets. Her light, rhythmically assured performance earns her another well-deserved spot among the year's nominees.

A familiar face on television who has also appeared in numerous films earlier in her career, Joyce TANG returns to the big screen with “Back to the Past”. Her mature, composed portrayal of "Shin Yau" — a character of quiet strength beneath a cool exterior — adds a layer of warmth and emotional depth to a beloved classic story.

Debuting in her very first film, “Girlfriends”, Elizabeth TANG secures a rare double nomination this year — both ‘Best Supporting Actress’ and ‘Best New Performer’. She plays a key figure in the lead character's coming-of-age journey, her sincere and understated performance capturing the quiet struggle of finding one's place in the face of doubt and pressure.
